The research of Ligia Dias spans a broad spectrum where the history of forms becomes a field for experimentation and transformation. Through sculpture, site-specific installations, and jewelry, she interrogates the «role of the artist» and the ways in which our society hierarchises material production according to a pre-established system of values. By creating works that evoke functional or personal spaces, she highlights the importance of these physical structures in shaping our cultural identity.

The combination of found materials with precious elements in assemblages of varying scales generates an unexpected contrast, enabling Dias to transcend traditional artistic boundaries. While maintaining a unique and coherent vision, she explores the full scope of her practice — including its social dimensions — to move beyond the polarities between art and industrial production, and between artwork and object. Her highly complex, often paradoxical practice resides at the intersection of physical experience and allegorical depth.

Trained as a graphic designer and fashion designer, Ligia Dias worked for more than 20 years for major fashion brands such as Balenciaga, Comme des Garçons, Lanvin, Loewe, and Louis Vuitton, among others, before devoting herself to the visual arts.

Recent exhibitions of her work have been held at Lovay Fine Arts in Geneva (solo), the Bally Foundation in Lugano, and the MCBA Musée des beaux-arts, Lausanne. 

Her work features in the public collections of the OFC Collection fédérale d'art, FACM Fonds cantonal d'art contemporain de Meyrin, and FCAC Fonds cantonal d'art contemporain de Genève in Switzerland, as well as the CNAP Centre national d'arts contemporains et d'arts appliqués, and the FRAC Normandie Fonds régionale d'art contemporain Normandie in France.
